EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Response Plans
You should know what is expected of you, whether you are a responder, an employee, a contractor, a fire watch/standby man or simply a visitor. The response plan should state what you are expected to do in the event of an emergency, such as how to raise the alarm, and where or how to get to a safe location during an emergency event.
evacuation route |
- High-risk activities, such as confined space entry, require specific rescue plans.
- Reporting and Responding to an Emergency
- In case of an emergency, you must immediately report:
- All work-related injuries/illnesses or vehicle collisions, no matter how slight, to your supervisor.
- All fires spill, and releases, no matter how small, to your supervisor.
- Any unsafe condition, practice, near miss, or incident to your supervisor.
HOW TO REPORT AN EMERGENCY
- Say, “This is an emergency!”
- Tell the incident location.
- Describe exact location such as building number or tank number etc.
- Describe the nature of emergency such as fire, spillage, vehicle collision etc.
- Report injuries, fatalities or property damage, if any.
- Tell your name and ID number.
- Repeat the above information.
- Stay on the line until the phone receiver say ‘ok’
For example: “This is an Emergency, Area PCQ -2, Loop number
- 5, Fire in welding machine, one person suffering from smoke inhalation, My name is Munir Ahmad, my badge number is 123456. Repeat........
WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
- You must know in advance how to:
- Remain calm
- Stop work
- Switch off electrical equipment
- Check wind direction (if gas release alarm sounded)
- Proceed to the assembly point
- The supervisor should start head counting to assure nobody is missing
- Remain at the assembly area until the “all clear” signal is given
- Make sure you are familiar with at least two evacuation routes from your work area. In an emergency, proceed to the nearest assembly point via a safe route, and remain at the assembly area until the “all clear” signal is given.
Rescue Plan for confined space
- The safety of people who are involved in rescue and entrant
- Substantial anchorage point for rescue equipment
- Only ERT(emergency response team) can do the rescue
- Rescue equipment always standby at the manhole
